In a long empty drive exiting the Teton mountains into the extensive great plains, I rode for hours in the car watching the endless field continue expanding out before me.
My husband began playing over the car radio a song titled “Acheron” as a flock of blackbirds started a captivating mermeration display that felt ere with the low music about the fields of the underworld.
This moment in time inspired this work of art and my whole following mythology collection.
Acheron, a real river in Greece is named this and it was fabled to be the entrance to the underworld. In myth, also know as “the river of woe”, Charon ferried all who had coins across to the next stages of the underworld.
